We are Topeka’s only Junior Roller Derby team – AD ASTRA.  Our team is made up of young skaters, ages 7 – 17.  We normally practice twice a week on Tuesday evening, and on Saturday morning.  We practice at the local Sk8away Skating Rink, which is located at 815 SW Fairlawn Rd.  Feel free to drop by and take a look at your future roller derby athletes in action!  You can find our practice schedule on our Calendar page.

The team originated in the summer of 2011, and at that time, was known as the ‘Topeka Chick Whips’.  After a 5-week bootcamp concluded, we expanded to having 3-month long sessions, with a few weeks for a break between each session.  Eventually, we moved into a year-round activity schedule.  With Covid-19, all bouts were cancelled, and remained that way, until such time that we could get back together, while maintaining a safe environment for our young people.  We continue to practice on a regular basis in anticipation of being able to return to competition, hopefully, within the next few months.  Time will tell!

We have been growing steady and strong since our origin in 2011.  Over the years we have grown from just a little team that had a bootcamp with 8 little girls, to what we are today.  We are now a team of approximately 30 players, and we are now co-ed.
